Answers "is my doctor in network" for a specific plan and plan year.

**What the assistant provides:** the plan, the provider's name, the consumer's ZIP, provider type (doctor, hospital, clinic) and a search radius.

**What comes back:** matching providers with specialty, address, distance, whether they are in network for that plan (yes, no or unknown) and whether they accept new patients when known; a link to the carrier's official directory for that plan; the time the directory was checked; and a caveat that directories lag.

**Rules**

- Never guess. If the answer is unknown, say the directory did not confirm it and give the consumer the directory link.
- Networks differ by product. An HMO and a PPO from the same carrier are different networks.
- Kaiser plans only cover Kaiser providers.
